These former ATSF cars were renumbered and repainted and received the BNSF Logo starting in 1997. The creation of the BNSF started with the formation of a holding company, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Corporation on September 22, 1995. The new company then purchased the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad and then the Burlington Northern Railroad and merged the railways into the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad on December 31, 1996. On January 24, 2005, the railroads name was officially changed to the "BNSF" Railway, using the initials of its original name. Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, the BNSF Railroad is a fully owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. | | | SERIES: | 402000 - 489999 | BUILT: | 1973 | TRUCKS: | Barber Roller Bearing | REGION: | West USA | ERA: | 1973 - Present | | | |
