This 50' Airslide Covered Hopper is painted light blue with black lettering.  Car boasts a light weathering and graffiti.  GATX Corporation is an equipment finance company based in Chicago, Illinois and was founded in 1898.  GATX's primary activities consisted of railcar financing.  GATX produced 4,180 Airslide Covered Hoppers between 1963 and 1980.  The unusual box car design for this hopper allowed for quick unloading via air pressure and provided more interior volume than hoppers of equal size.  The GACX Hopper Car represents the post 1973 design and proved rugged enough to still be in service today.
